Hi, I’m Heydar Gerayzade 👋

I built Best Time in Japan after planning my own trip turned into fifteen open tabs, three contradictory bloom forecasts, and still no clear answer to one simple question: is April actually worth the crowds? I couldn’t find one place that just told me — so I made it.

🌸 So when should you go?

That’s the whole question, and Japan makes it a good one. Cherry blossoms drift north over about two months. Autumn colour comes back down over three. Golden Week empties the offices and fills every train in the country. And a typhoon can rewrite your August in a day.

There isn’t one best month — there’s a best month for you, and it depends on what you want to see and how much company you’re willing to share it with. This site is my attempt to lay that out honestly: month by month, season by season, prefecture by prefecture.

If you want that answer laid out properly, it’s all on Best Time to Visit Japan — all twelve months compared for weather, crowds and prices, so you can weigh the trade-offs side by side rather than take my word for which one wins.

📊 Where the numbers come from

I’d much rather show you the source than ask you to take my word for it.

The bloom and foliage calendars come from the Japan Meteorological Agency’s phenological normals for 1991–2020 — real averaged first-bloom and full-bloom dates from the agency’s own observation sites, not my guesswork. Forecasts come from the Norwegian Meteorological Institute. And the safety pages — weather warnings, earthquakes, tsunami statements and volcanic alert levels — read the JMA’s live feeds directly.

Every one of those pages names its source and shows when it last updated, so you can always go and check the original.

🎏 How I choose what’s listed

Everything bookable here goes through Klook, filed under the prefecture it actually happens in, with its departure points and stops written out so you know what you’re signing up for.

And where a prefecture hasn’t got much worth booking yet, its page says so and points you to the nearest ones that do. I’d rather send you somewhere good than pad a page out to look busy.
