The Sapporo TV Tower has marked the eastern end of Odori Park since 1957, and its observation deck 90 metres up holds an unobstructed 360-degree view over one of Japan's greenest cities. Odori Park's flower-lined blocks run straight out beneath you, the city grid stretches to the Ishikari countryside, and on clear days the Sea of Japan shows on the horizon. Sixty seconds by elevator, and Hokkaido's biggest, most vibrant city arranges itself into a single view.

The full circle: straight down the flower-lined blocks of Odori Park, across the city grid to the Ishikari countryside, and out to the Sea of Japan on a clear day. The deck sits 90 metres up the 147-metre tower — high enough to take in all of Sapporo, close enough to pick out life in the park below.
It stands at the eastern end of Odori Park, a minute or two from Odori Station on the Namboku, Tozai and Toho subway lines. From JR Sapporo Station it's about a ten-minute walk south — or the same trip through the underground walkway when winter bites.
Dusk, when Odori Park lights up beneath you. In February the deck holds the best seat over the Sapporo Snow Festival, whose snow sculptures fill the park below; in summer the park's flower beds and beer gardens stretch out in full colour.
